Calico Rock FFA
State Fair Winners
Members of the Calico Rock FFA Show Team
earned several top honors at the
2004 Arkansas State Fair in Little Rock October 8-17, 2004.
The Calico Rock FFA Show Team earned the Outstanding Herdsman Award
in
the beef division. This award recognizes outstanding groups or individuals
who
showcase their animals in an attractive setting in the livestock barn.
Calico Rock’s
“FFA Bunkhouse” theme earned the top award sponsored by Farm Bureau
Insurance.
Tyler Cunningham and Danielle Cheatham both won Arkansas
Purple Circle Awards,
the most prestigious awards presented at the state fair. Tyler exhibited a
class
champion Market Goat and Danielle exhibited the Grand Champion AOB
registered gilt.
Both youngsters were presented framed awards at the Purple Circle Awards
program
held at the C.A. Vines 4-H Center in Ferndale.
Casey Cragle exhibited the Grand Champion and Arkansas Champion
Southdown Ewe
in the open sheep show.
Cortney Cragle won Arkansas Champion Ram in the Southdown division
of the open
sheep show.
Brayden Fountain was selected as the Champion Showman in 13-year
old Swine
Showmanship.
Corey Sanders was chosen as the Reserve Champion Showman in the
14-year old
Swine Showmanship division and Heath Branscum placed fourth.
Clayton Conyers
and Brittany Fountain placed in the Top 10 of their respective
divisions.
Brian Sanders earned a Reserve Grand Champion honors with his
Salers heifer in the
junior cattle show.
Lara Moore won Reserve Division Champion, Reserve Arkansas Bred
Champion Simmental
Female, and finished in the Top 10 in the Arkansas Simmental Futurity with
her heifers.
Lara also placed fourth in Simmental showmanship.
Rachel Nave showed her Gelbvieh heifer to a fifth place finish in
the highly competitive
FFA Beef Showmanship division.
In the Maine-Anjou division, James Gallegos won Champion Breeder’s
Group with his
two heifers and a bull.
